Event Description:
This was originally scheduled for May 28, but is rescheduled for August 28 due to inclement weather.
Come join YPC for a discussion with UnityPoint Health Des Moines about UnityPoint Clinic's new LGBTQ Clinic at Methodist Plaza. Lindsay Dressen and Dr. Amy Bingaman, MD will speak about why such a clinic is necessary, the stigmas and discrimination that the LGBTQ community face in fulfilling their healthcare needs, the journey of creating the LGBTQ clinic, and the future opportunities they hope to see.
The LGBTQ clinic is the first of its kind in central Iowa and represents the desire of UnityPoint Health to meet the specific health care needs of the LGBTQ community in Central Iowa by providing a safe and affirming environment and overcome the stigma and discrimination that persons in the LGBTQ community often face. Its staff have undergone training through the Safe Zone Project to ensure patient care in a welcoming environment with a team who strives to deliver quality affirming care with dignity and sensitivity to all our patients. They offer dedicated health services in a comfortable, caring environment to the gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, queer, questioning, gender non-conforming, genderqueer, gender gluid, and anyone who identifies as part of the LGBTQ communities.
