Mike Draper, founder and owner of RAYGUN in Des Moines, will be speaking to Young Professionals Connection at our October Lunch ‘n Learn.

RAYGUN has been dubbed “The Greatest Store in the Universe” by RAYGUN. Mike Draper is from Van Meter, Iowa, and a 2004 graduate of the University of Pennsylvania. After being rejected from a fellowship in European history, Mike opened his one-man shop in the East Village of Des Moines in 2005. “With no business experience, no design experience, no retail experience, and no outside funding, investors were not lined up around the corner!” Mike jokes. “Back then, I was the only employee. So I designed your shirt, printed your shirt, sold you your shirt, and unclogged the toilet after you used the bathroom - you know who you are.”  

RAYGUN is headquartered in the East Village of Des Moines a few blocks from the hospital where Mike was born. Mike says, “So geographically speaking, I have not come very far in life. But RAYGUN is still in business, and will hopefully stay that way.” Mike will share how he’s transformed RAYGUN into a Midwest sensation by chasing his dreams.
