Event Description:
The Dinner Around Des Moines series introduces YPC members to different cultural restaurants around the Greater Des Moines metro and celebrates cultural diversity through food. This month we will dine at Heavenly Asian in Valley Junction (West Des Moines). Heavenly Asian serves unique and creative, regional Chinese cuisine with a focus on the Gansu and Sichuan regions of China. Gansu cuisine comes from the northwestern region of China and typically features lamb or beef that is roasted, braised, or steamed. Sichuan cuisine comes from the southwestern region of China and is well known for its strong, bold, and spicy flavors that rely on garlic, chili peppers, and the Sichuan peppercorn.

Both members and non-members are invited to come enjoy a night of good food and culture. Shirley Burke, who owns the restaurant with her parents, will talk about the intersection of culture and cuisine at Heavenly Asian, and what their food tells us about her family and their culture. We will also have the opportunity to experience a traditional Chinese tea ceremony.

Visit their website for more information. We hope to see you there! Please register above to help us give the restaurant an accurate estimate of the number of attendees.
