YPC’s Masterclass Series features executives from across greater Des Moines to share their stories of how they got to where they are today and advice for young professionals. Come to listen, ask questions, and take some of the lessons learned back to your own career! This event will be a 45-minute interactive presentation followed by Q&A.
YPC is excited to welcome Masterclass speaker, Miriam Lewis, chief inclusion officer of Principal Financial Group. Miriam will be sharing her story including her passions, the challenges she’s faced, her successes, and her advice for young professionals.

In addition, Miriam was on the 2018 BLACK ENTERPRISE list of Top Executives in Corporate Diversity, has been a Top 50 Chief Diversity Officer for the last three consecutive years, included in the Power 50 rosters of the National Diversity Council in 2021 and 2022, and was named the 2022 Diversity Changemaker of the Year by MentorcliQ. Miriam is also recognized as a DEI leader by Diversity, Equity, Inclusion & Accessibility Magazine produced by the Los Angeles Times.
A native of Mobile, Ala., Lewis holds a bachelor's degree in mathematics from the University of Alabama. Lewis and her husband, Ray, have one adult son, Ray Jr.

About Miriam:
Miriam Lewis is chief inclusion officer at Principal Financial Group®. Since her start at Principal® in 2019, Miriam has led global inclusion initiatives and responsibilities to build a more inclusive workplace and culture, increase employee performance, and support efforts in recruiting and retaining diverse talent. Additionally, she consults leaders and teams across the business on best practices for diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) to effectively serve its customer base and continue to help advance financial security for diverse communities.
Prior to joining Principal®, Miriam worked for 16 years at The Clorox Company, where she earned roles of increasing responsibility in D&I and supply chain. She previously held positions with The Coca-Cola Company and Citigroup Financial Services.
In addition to her extensive experience in the consumer-packaged goods and financial services industries, Miriam has been at the forefront in supporting notable organizations to help advance DEI initiatives. Lewis helps to foster diversity and inclusion efforts across the life insurance industry as past inaugural chair and current industry portfolio. She provides insights and perspectives to drive excellence in the global diversity and inclusion marketplace by serving as a director on the Diversity MBA Advisory Leadership Board for P&L Groups, LTD of IL Holding Company. Lewis is also a member of Broadlawns Hospital Foundation Board.
