Event Description:

Many of us want to volunteer and give back, but the pandemic has caused some challenges and we aren't sure how. In this virtual session, hear about trends from non-profits, learn creative and alternative ways to give back, and take away tips for volunteering during a pandemic.

Our presenter is Amanda Martin, who is the Assistant Director of Community Engaged Learning at Drake University. In this role, she builds and maintains relationships with the non-profit community in Des Moines, and works with students to develop the skills needed to be active citizens and to create social change. She oversees an AmeriCorps program called the Engaged Citizen Corps, and supervises 8 student employees who act as peer ambassadors to the Drake campus. Amanda is an AmeriCorps VISTA alum, having served 2 years in Ames, IA from 2007-2009. She is a 2020 Business Record Forty Under 40 recipient and was a 2018 YPC Ashly Okland Community Service Award Finalist. She has been actively involved with Toastmasters International for the past 8 years and recently earned the Distinguished Toastmaster designation.
