Come join YPC and the Des Moines Comunity Playhouse on Saturday, August 3rd from 6 PM to 7:30 PM to learn more about the Playhouse's production of Newsies, to get an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at the production, and enjoy a complimentary round of drinks on the Playhouse, as well as complimentary appetizers provided by Gazali's Mediterranean Grill (hummus, baba ganoush, and baklava) . This smash hit Broadway musical, based on the 1992 film, is inspired by the New York newsboy's strike of 1899. Publishing giants Joseph Pulitzer and William Randolph Hearst raise distribution prices at the expense of the delivery boys, Jack Kelly and friends, all teenage "newsies." As Jack dreams of leaving the city to escape his orphaned and poverty-stricken life he meets Katherine Plumber, the young reporter interested in getting an exclusive for the Sun, who join together to fight for what's right. Filled with high-energy action and dance numbers, this musical comedy-drama is fun for the whole family.
About Des Moines Community Playhouse
The Des Moines Community Playhouse, now in its 100th season, is one of the oldest and largest community theatres in the US. Located in the Ingersoll neighborhood, the theatre has presented a full season of shows since 1919 and also offers a wide variety of educational experiences including classes for ages 4 to adult, theatre trips to New York, and volunteer opportunities onstage and backstage.

The Des Moines Community Playhouse runs a free membership group for patrons who are 18-35 years (and their guests) called The Curtain Crowd.
